PS166 Family Giving
This can never be said often enough: Thank you for your donation to the Family Giving campaign.

With your student in Kindergarten right now, I’m sure you already know how absolutely essential our Classroom Assistants are, but you may not know we only have those assistants because of you.

Not a single dollar for the Classroom Assistants comes from the city, the state, or the federal government — having these wonderful assistants with our children at their most impressionable ages is something made possible expressly due to your contribution.

Kindergarten and 1st Grade are fortunate to have a dedicated classroom assistant in each class.

We thought you’d appreciate a chance to get to learn a little bit about them.

Meredith Flores
(Ms. Stephanie)
“I love working with children! Everyday I learn something new from them.”
Renate Grant
(Ms. Holtzman)
The kids know me as Ms. Renny. I’m a certified teacher’s assistant, and currently pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education. Originally from Trinidad, I’ve been living in Brooklyn for more than 15 years. I have worked with children of all populations, including those with special needs. I enjoy working alongside children as they discover new things everyday. I look forward to finishing my degree and hopefully one day becoming a teacher here at PS 166.”
Ashley Baldwin
(Ms. Seiden)
“I am extremely happy to be a part of the PS166 team. I’m a native of Birmingham, Ala., and I have a passion for teaching and the performing arts.”
Devin Tillman
(Ms. Mei/
Ms. Chiarelli)
“I recently graduated from MCNY with my MBA. I’m originally from California, and in my spare time I love to read and watch shows from the early ’90s, such as Charmed.”
Shuhana Shila
(Ms. Middleton)
“Teaching is my passion. My first job was working as a librarian and that’s where my passion for teaching grew. For my Bachelor’s I studied History at Hunter College and currently I am enrolled in a Childhood Education program for my Master’s. I am so happy to be working at PS166 and being part of the family. My goal as their teacher is to inspire them to love learning new things with me!”
Juliya Chernova
(Ms. Moses)

“I’m currently a Brooklyn College student majoring in childhood education. For my Master’s I want to pursue a degree in special education. Before I changed my major to childhood education, I was majoring in secondary education for Math. For almost 10 years, I have worked for Kumon, an afterschool center for kids ranging from 3 years old to 12th grade. I have experience working with all age groups, tutoring and helping with math and reading. I’ve also been a student teacher and done field hours at 4 different schools, where I was working with kids, helping the teacher, and teaching several lessons myself.”

Anikki Fitzsimmons
(Ms. Epstein)

My favorite subject with the first grade is science because we get to explore various topics joined by extremely fun experiments. In my free time I enjoy creating art — my preferred media are pencils and oil paints, and I like to do landscapes and portraits.”

Kevin Cheng
(Ms. Janna/
Ms. Hope)

“I graduated from Queens College with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Biology and I’m currently working on my Master’s in Biology, with a concentration in Conservation. My first experience working with children was through AmeriCorps, as an Outdoor Educator, pioneering a summer camp program in Nevada. Until recently, I was working as a Tutor/Activity Specialist with an afterschool program hosted by PS 42, on the Lower East Side, teaching STEM-based lessons and LEGO Robotics. In pursuit of my newfound love of teaching, I hope to share my enthusiasm and joy of learning as a Teaching Assistant at PS 166”

Katina Elcock
(Ms. Dobra)

“I’m currently studying psychotherapy, and eventually hope to get my Master’s in this field. I have ten years of experience working with children. I’ve worked as a group leader, helping students, planning lessons, and assisting numerous instructors. I’ve also taught and led 4th and 5th grade students in an afterschool program. Looking forward to meeting you all!”

Evelyn Garcia
(Mr. Derek)

“I recently graduated from State University of New York at Fredonia, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Education, and in the spring of 2018 I will be attending Hunter College to pursue my Master’s degree. I am fluent in both English and Spanish. A couple of things I enjoy are watching films and spending time with friends and family.”

Daniel Genoves-Sylvan
2nd Grade
“The kids I work with know me as “Mr. Dan.” I’m an artist, painter, and mathematician. I love math (which I think of as art) and love tutoring math to all ages. I love working with kids in general, and inspiring their creativity.”
Yamell Villaman
2nd Grade
I am a qualified educational assistant with experience in ABA educational programs. As a versatile educator, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of students including those affected by ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, and behavioral challenges. In addition, I develop an excellent, trusting rapport with all students to make certain that they feel safe and comfortable in the classroom.”
Jennifer Rowe
4th Grade
“a.k.a. “Ms Rowe” or “Ms. Jenn Jenn” or “Ms RoRo,” thanks to the kids 😀 I work with all the fourth grade students. I enjoy writing and reading, and spending time with my friends and family.”
Kamal Battiste
5th Grade
“I am the longest-serving assistant at PS166. I’ve been in both the 4th and the 5th grades in the past, and this year I’m working with the 5th grade. I love joking and playing around with the kids. I also like shopping for sneakers.”
Tiniqua Louden
(“Ms. T”)
“I am known in school as Ms. T. I have worked in PS166 since 2008 and have been with the CAP program since 2012. I am a mom, community volunteer, and a mentor. I love putting smiles on faces and working with the families here at PS166. Thanks for all your support — it is greatly appreciated.”
