Friends of PS 166, Inc. (FOPS), established in 2001, was organized to provide administrative support for PS 166 and the initiatives generated primarily through the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). FOPS may also field requests from school administration or the SLT. Essentially, FOPS’ directive is to support the student-centered mission of PS 166 and its aim towards an excellent education. It is FOPS that votes on the disbursement of the fundraising dollars at PS 166, as well as manages these funds.
Projects most recently supported by FOPS include the CAP program, a program that funds assistant teachers in the school, aiming to decrease the student-teacher ratio; a residency program, affording each grade an in-depth, curriculum-related content-rich study; the creation of a school supply resource for teachers; as well as a host of other student-centered ventures.
