PS 166 Winner of NYC Green Cup Challenge!
PS 166 is New York City's regional winner of the 4th annual
Green Cup Challenge (GCC) - an inter-school energy conservation competition sponsored by the
Green Schools Alliance!! Our school achieved a 17.75% energy reduction between January 15th and February 12th, 2010. We saved $1,845.60 on our electricity bill, saved 15,380 kilowatt hours of electricity, and prevented 20,609 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) from being released into the environment. It was determined by the GCC Coordinators, that our energy saving was equal to taking 2 cars off the road for one year, or planting 10 trees, or changing 374 incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescents!
Congratulations to all our Climate Captains, our teachers, staff, and custodial staff who made this all possible!
On February 12th, District 3 Assembly Member Danny O'Donnell talked to students about the importance of energy conservation and presented our school with a beautiful framed Proclamation to commend us for our efforts.
